Disable Commission

The Disable Commission of the Asian Traditional Sports and Games Association (ATSGA) is established in alignment with the principles and provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), with a commitment to equality, non-discrimination, accessibility, participation, and respect for human dignity.

The Commission works to ensure that persons with disabilities have full and effective participation in traditional sports, indigenous games, and martial arts as a fundamental human right and an essential element of cultural inclusion.

UNCRPD-Aligned Objectives

In accordance with Articles 1, 3, 5, 9, 24, and 30 of the UNCRPD, the Disable Commission aims to:

·        Promote equal opportunities and non-discrimination in traditional sports and games

·        Ensure accessibility and reasonable accommodation in sports activities, events, and training

·        Encourage full participation in cultural life, recreation, leisure, and sport

·        Support inclusive education and lifelong learning through traditional sports

·        Empower persons with disabilities to participate with dignity, autonomy, and independence

Key Functions

·        Development of inclusive and adapted guidelines for traditional sports, games, and martial arts

·        Promotion of para-traditional sports and inclusive game formats rooted in cultural heritage

·        Capacity building of coaches, instructors, officials, and volunteers on disability inclusion

·        Collaboration with government bodies, disability organizations, rehabilitation centers, and NGOs

·        Advocacy, awareness programs, and policy guidance aligned with UNCRPD standards

Rights-Based Approach

The Disable Commission adopts a rights-based and person-centered approach, recognizing persons with disabilities as active participants and leaders, not merely beneficiaries. The Commission promotes participation without segregation, wherever possible, in line with UNCRPD Article 30(5).

Vision

The Disable Commission envisions an inclusive Asia where traditional sports and games serve as instruments of equality, empowerment, cultural identity, and social inclusion for persons with disabilities.

By aligning traditional sports with the UNCRPD framework, the Commission contributes to human rights, sustainable development, and inclusive cultural heritage preservation across Asia.
